What happens when you snore?

If you’re snoring through the night, it means the muscles in the roof of your mouth, tongue and even the back of your throat are relaxed. While this sounds like a good thing, it really isn’t. As we sleep, everyone’s neck muscles relax, however when the relaxation is too significant, it causes partial closure of your upper airway. With the airway being too narrow for enough air to pass through, this is when your body makes the airflow more forceful. The vibrations from this forced airflow are the sounds you hear when someone snores. Usually, as the vibration increases, the snoring will just get louder and louder. You may not even notice it, but we can guarantee those around you will!

What are the causes of snoring?

Have you ever wondered why some people snore and some don’t? It can be down to a number of reasons. Firstly, those with larger tonsils, tongues or excess weight in the neck area will be more prone to snoring.
